The Giver takes place in a seemingly perfect society. Jonas, a young boy living in this colorless world devoid of strong emotions, is chosen for a unique and weighty assignment: becoming the Receiver of Memory. The Giver, the sole holder of the community's memories of the past, begins to transmit these memories to Jonas.
