Description

Gregory of Nyssa (335 - 394) came from a particularly pious Christian family in Capadocia. His brother was the famous St. Basil the Great who appointed him bishop of the small town of Nyssa in 371. There he played a pivotal role in forming the doctrine of the Trinity and in defending the Nicene Creed.

He wrote a number of mystical Christian works, of which The Life of Moses is perhaps the most important. St. Gregory describes the life of Moses as it appears in the book of Exodus and Numbers. Then he explains
these literal events, spiritually, with the aim of showing how Moses' life is a perfect model for any Christian who aims at perfection. The reader is encouraged to walk the same steps as Moses and to ultimately ascend the holy mountain with him to become a servant and friend of God.
