Description

In this book by D.H. Lawrence we read about his experience and life in Italy. It is not a story, but a compilation of travel essays, in which he describes the places he visited in Italy, the people in Italy and their life and culture.
In august, 1912, Lawrence and Frieda, who still haven’t been married at that time, go on a journey through Europe and settling in Italy. They passed through Icking, near Munich, then go to Riva on Lago di Garda, and in September they arrive to the Italian Gargnano. They stayed there for almost a year, during which period Lawrence worked on his writings and finished some of them.
In this book, using his talent for natural description and “felt” characterization, he takes us with him on this journey. The essays are filled with descriptive writings about Lawrence’s travels through the countryside and the mountains. In the essays, he describes each place and each person he met, in a philosophical and poetical way, which adds the element of foreignness.
